Skene, Alexander Johnston Chalmers (1838–1900), American gynecologist. Skene was a pioneer in the field of gynecology and the author of over a hundred medical papers. In 1878 he published a monograph on the diseases of the bladder and urethra in women. Two years later he reported on his discovery of the paraurethral glands, now also known as Skene's glands. He is also credited with devising 31 surgical instruments.
